As far as I know, CC doesn’t mess with your QuickTime install and I know it doesn’t effect CS6 at all, so the issue may lie somewhere else and may be just a coincidence that it appeared to coincide with the install of CC. Any changes in your OS (updates, etc.)? Any changes in security software (antivirus, anti-malware, firewall, etc.)? However with Shadow Studio you can simulate these effects in a much faster manner. As you may have seen over the past week or so, I have been psyched out of my skull for Adobe CS6. Ever since I saw the presentations at NAB, I’ve been hooked. Well, kids, Adobe CS6 dropped yesterday, and within minutes of my alarm clock buzzing, I was downloading the brand new trials. (Creative Cloud officially starts on May 11th, so I got a few days till I’m all official-like.) So, in the few hours I’ve spent with the suite, I’ve come to some conclusions.
Using CS6, as with any new software, is a bit of a learning experience, and I might be posting more about my findings in the coming days and weeks. But for now, here are some of my initial thoughts.
PRELUDE CS6
So far I’ve used Prelude to log clips for one project. It seems like a great tool. I haven’t really used any transcoding features yet, but I have made Rough Cuts. Rough Cuts are really slick. For sure a time saver. My only gripe is that there doesn’t seem to be any concern or even acknowledgment that most productions have separate sound recordings. Malware scanner for mac os. There’s no way to sync sound to clips, and after you make a rough cut, it would be even harder to sync sound. So hopefully there will be some kind of update soon, because I can use it on little videos that don’t need high end sound, but other than that, it seems like syncing would be hard.
PREMIERE PRO CS6
I’ve used Premiere Pro to cut one project, the same one I used Prelude for. I like the new interface. That’s about my only opinion so far. Oh yeah, and the Constant Playback feature is great. I was adding filters, changing audio levels, all on the fly. It’s a really nice way to work. I haven’t played with other goodies like adjustment layers. Seems great though.

AFTER EFFECTS CS6
Wow! This is the gem of the suite. I was very impressed with the 3D extrusions and raytracing, as well as the 3D camera tracker. Both are exceptional tools. The camera tracker is probably the easiest one I have ever used, and placing objects in 3D space is a breeze. Well done, Adobe. A feature that blew me away was the render engine. I love the per-layer rendering. I was able to try different layers and looks on my comp, and if I hit undo, or even deleted the layer, my preview would reload and I would be ready for playback again. Great time saver.
(THE BOTTOM LINE)
CS6 seems to really deliver for me. I’m very happy so far. Just the changes in Premiere, and the improvements in After Effects are worth it as far as I can tell. Like I said, I’ll probably have more in the coming days, but for now, CS6 gets two thumbs up!
