About jEdit
JEdit is a cross-platform, programmer's text editor written in Java. Some of jEdit's features include it runs on MacOS X, OS/2, Unix, VMS, and Windows. JEdit is an enormously popular text editor designed for programmers. JEdit's strengths lie in it's simplicity, power and wide support of Unicode, Text Encoding Sniffer, Customizable Syntax Coloring, Fully Customizable Key Bindings, Object Embedding (image, Quicktime Movie and files) and much more. Under most circumstances, jEdit plugins do not need to be downloaded and installed manually. Usually, you can add, update, and remove plugins from a working installation of jEdit by using the bundled Plugin Manager. It can be accessed from jEdit's Plugins-Plugin Manager menu. If you would like to find out how to install plugins manually. Make sure you quit/relaunch jEdit before you do this or the settings directory may not be correct. Install Plugins. To gain the full power of jedit you need to install various plugins (xinsert, console, editor scheme, xsearch and errorlist). In the 'jeditsetup' folder you'll find a folder called 'jars'. Does jEdit work on my version of Windows?Jedit Plug-ins
Older versions of Windows often have trouble running modern software and thus jEdit may run into errors if you're running something like Windows XP. Conversely, much older software that hasn't been updated in years may run into errors while running on newer operating systems like Windows 10. You can always try running older programs in compatibility mode.
Officially supported operating systems include Windows 10, Windows 8, Windows 7, Windows Vista and Windows XP.
What versions of jEdit are available?The current version of jEdit is 5.6.0 and is the latest version since we last checked. This is the full offline installer setup file for PC. This site has hosted other versions of it in the past such as 5.5.0, 5.4.0, 5.3.0, 5.2.0 and 5.1.0. At the moment, only the latest version is available.
